Give reasons for the following :

  1. Water has a higher heat capacity than soil and rock, so the ocean takes much longer to heat and to cool than the land. Coastal areas will generally have more moderate temperatures than inland areas because of the heat capacity of the ocean.
  2. Kink in the clinical thermometer helps to prohibit the falling of mercury present in the capillary tube into the bulb ensuring that a person should get the correct reading even after taking the thermometer out from his/her mouth.
