Questions:-

1. Why is the tundra region known as the cold pole of earth?

2. Why is intensive agriculture practiced in the Mediterranean region?

3. The temperate grasslands have become 'granaries of the world'.

Answers:-

1.Tundra, a cold region of treeless level or rolling ground found mostly north of the Arctic Circle or above the timberline on mountains. Tundra is known for large stretches of bare ground.

2.It represents a very intensive form of farming requiring not only good conditions of moisture, temperature and soil but also much personal care,

3.These grasslands lie in the Westerly wind belt. These grasslands have been ploughed up for extensive mechanised wheat cultivation. Besides wheat, maize is also increasingly cultivated.
