Give reasons for the following:
(a) Aluminium foils are used to wrap food items.
(b) Immersion rods for heating liquids are made up of metallic substances.
(c) Copper cannot displace zinc from its salt solution.

a) Aluminium is the least reactive metals so it does not react with food items and does not alter the taste. Moreover, being a metal ; aluminium is highly malleable and can be made into very thin foils which are perfect for wrapping.
b) Immersion rods are for hearing liquids are made up of metallic substances beecause metals are good conductors of heat and electricity. The immersion rod needs electric supply to get heated and ; in turn ; to liquids.
c) Copper is less reactive than zinc. This is the reason copper cannot displace zinc from its salt solution.
d) Sodium and pottasium are highly reactive metals. If kept in open they readily react with oxygen in the atmosphere. The reaction is so quick and the sodium and pottasium easily catch fire. To prevent accidental fire, they are stored in kerosene....

(a) Aluminium foil is used to wrap food because when aluminium come in contact with oxygen it forms a layer of oxide on it which do not allow the aluminium to react with food or any other substance.
(b) Rods are made up of metallic substances becausevmetals are good conductors of heat and light so they do not lose heat from it.
(c) Copper can not displace zinc from its solution because zinc is more reactive than copper and zinc lies higher than copper in reactivity series.
(d) Sodium and potassium are stored in kerosene because they are most reactive elements and if they kept in open they react with hydrogen and and catch fire.
