(b) It is easier to push a lighter box than a similar heavy box on the same floor.
(c) The force, needed to start a cart, is (somewhat) greater than the force
needed to keep it moving with a uniform speed.

Answer:

a) because friction reduces

b) because if an object is light it will apply less pressure on the floor and less irregularities will interlock reducing friction...

c) because static friction is always more than sliding friction

d) a sportsmen uses them because it helps them to increase friction helping him to form a proper grip on the ground.

a) This is because a banana peel is slippery and tends to reduce the friction between our foot and the ground thus we tend to slip... This is because to increase the sportsmen's grip and reduce the friction between their foot and the ground.

b) We can push a lighter box easily than a heavy box on the same floor because of friction. The heavier the object, the more friction is applied, thus making it difficult to push a heavier box.

c) The greater force is required to start a cart than the force required to keep the cart moving in the uniform motion so as to overcome the force of static friction.

d) Sportsmen use shoes with spikes so as to have a better grip while running. This is because the force of friction between the shoes and the ground increases with the help of spikes.
