(a) Nucleus contains protons (positive) and neutrons (neutral), which have a mass of 1 amu each.These sub-atomic particles are responsible for the whole mass of the atom.Due to the presence of the positively charged protons in the nucleus, it is positively charged.

(b)In an atom, the number of positive charges (protons) and the number of negative charges (electrons) are equal. Thus an atom is electrically neutral.
