Give reasons for the following:-
(i) Buses and trucks usually have double wheels on the rear side.
(ii) High rise buildings and dams have a wide base.
(iii) Tanks and bulldozers are fitted with caterpillar tracks rather than wheels.​

Answer:

1-buses and trucks have double wheels at the back because these are heavy vehicles with most of the loads resting towards the back. Also,the engine that drives the vehicle is attached to the back wheels so the doubleback wheels provides better hold on the ground.

2- (THERE ARE TWO REASONS FOR THIS)

a) it is to equally distribute the weight of the dams. To increase the surface area for uniform load distribution

b)They are given wide bases to exert less pressure because smaller the area higher the pressure.

3-caterpillars tracks have large surface area than wheels because larger the surface area, smaller will be the pressure. Hence, tanks and bulldozers are fitted with Caterpillar tracks.
