hot food the vapors will be spread into atmosphere but in case of case we want any smell because there are no vapors to reach our nose in hot food case the vapors reach our nose directly and causes hunger. as our nose has many receptor cells it responds easily. When food is hot the kinetic energy in the particles is high and the smell can reach far away and when it’s cold kinetic energy is less and we cannot smell it from far
