Answer:

(a) Element Y located in the 17th group is with a total of its valence electrons of '7'e-. So, It would gain one electron to become stable and thus, shows the properties of a non metal being electronegative.

(b) Element X is located in the group 16th, whereas Z in 17th. As, we know that the atomic radii of an atom decreases as we move from left to rught side across a period in the modern periodic table. This is because of the gradual increasing net nuclear charge, which tends to pull the electrons towards the nucleus and thus, making atoms of element Z smaller in size as compared to that of X.

(c) Element Z, being present in the 17th group has a total of 7 valence electrons.

Thus, its configuration is given by:

Z(Bromine): K(2), L(8), M(18), N(7)

And, as Element Z would gain one electron to become stable, and thus attaining a valency of "–1".
