a] Arteries and arterioles have relatively thick muscular walls because blood pressure in them is high and because they must adjust their diameter to maintain blood pressure and to control blood flow.
b] The auricles and ventricles on each side of the heart communicate with each other through openings. The opening between the right auricle and right ventricle is called the tricuspid valve. This valve consists of three triangular flaps of thin, strong, fibrous tissue.
