During the melting of a solid, the heat supplied is not used to increase the temperature of the solid, instead it is used to overcome the intermolecular force of attraction between the particles of the solid so that its cohesive force decreases and it changes into liquid. That is why the temperature of the solid remains the same during its conversion into liquid even if we continue to heatthe solid.
