Napoleon’s rise was facilitated by no of factors.

Napoleon was son of revolution because the circumstances created by the outbreak of french revolution contributed to his rise. The revolution established a new France based on the principle of equality and merit where anybody could aspire for any high office on the basis of his ability. The revolution gave an opportunity to Napoleon to show his genius through military successes. The revolution had abolished the institution of monarchy as a result of which French throne was empty and Napoleon could aspire to sit on it.

The excesses of revolution witnessed during ‘Reign of Terror’ had turned the common Frenchman against it to some extent. The Frenchman was looking for peace and stability . The rise of Napoleon was the only guarantee of peace and order in France.

The failure of ‘Directory’ also contributed to his rise.

The military achievements of Napoleon had recognized the Frenchman. He was the symbol of French nationalism. The frenchman loved nothing more than glory and when he captured power everybody welcomed it
