Sharp nails are preferred to blunt ones because of the following.
- A sharp/pointed nail occupies less area than a blunt one at the point of contact with the object (like wood, wall, etc.)
- The pressure exerted is inversely proportional to the area of contact.
Therefore, the sharp nail will exert more pressure on the object as it is hammered and penetrates easily compared to the blunt one which doesn’t penetrate easily.
