Most Of The Land Surface In A Desert Is Sandy Due To The Following Reasons:

Most of the land surface in the desert are sandy because a desert is a barren land where there is no water or vegetation. The climate that is there in a desert is very hot. Most of the plants cannot bear this heat which is there in the desert and hence  plants do not grow well int the desert. Some plants are able to adapt to this heat which is there and able to grow the desert example of such plants are date palm tree, Cactus etc.

These plants have adapted to survive the hot climate and less water and managed to grow in the deserts. For soil to be good there needs to be good bacteria's and earthworms in the soil that help to decompose and make the soil fertile. These bacteria's are unable to grow in the desert soil because of the hot climate and this soil has no fertility because of no plants which help to enrich the soil. Plants are required for the growth of good bacteria's in the soil if there is no plants then there will not be any good bacteria in the soil.

In deserts water is available only in some minor areas called oasis. These are the spots where you can find a lot of date palm trees. Hence, the main reason why the land surface of a desert is sandy because of lack or vegetation and lack of soil enriching bacteria's in the soil.
