Indian plateaus for example the Deccan plateau and the Chota Nagpur Plateau regions were formed millions of years ago when the lava tracts of the Indian peninsula were subject to cooling. The molten magma contained several minerals in it, hence the plateau regions in India are flourishing mining centres where large reserves of iron ore, limestone, bauxite, dolomite, coal, etc are found. To reduce the cost of transport, several industries have been set up in areas such as the chotanagpur plateau belt, as plentiful mineral resources, cheap labour, water, etc is available, this region is also compared to the iron ore producing region of Ruhr in Germany.
