Because in photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is used and oxygen is released .On the other hand in respiration, oxygen is used and carbon dioxide is released which neutralize the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen in our nature , hence result in balancing oxygen and carbon dioxide in our nature.
