Chhatrapti Shivaji Mharaj wanted to create the awareness among his subject that they are no longer mere part of a Jahagir, but a broder sense of their SelfKingdom i.e. Swarajya among the Mugals and other Muslim Sultanats.
After the fall of Vijaybagar Kingdom, Raje brought the beilf in the mind of common that they can also have their own Kingdom i.e.Hindwi Swarajy.
Since Shivaji Maharaj was The King of People who brought all the Caste and Creed of Maharashtra together for the noble cause, he was the obvious choice to be a King.
Also “ हे राज्य व्हावे ही तर श्रींची इच्छा “ means it was God's Wish to have a Swarajy, Shivaji Raje becomes Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
He was formally crowned as the Chhatrapati (Monarch) of his realm at Raigad in 1674... Chhatrapati who had his own Royal seal got himself coronated to bring back confidence of Hindus by manifesting that a Hindu could once again become a King. His Royal seal, too, consciously had a Sanskrit script.
