Give reasons :
The reaction of Zn with dil. HNO3 does not produce hydrogen gas.
Answers
Zn doesn't react with HNO3 because HNO3 is an highly oxidising agent...
Hope it helps you...

Generally, metals react with dilute acids, producing the corresponding salt and evolve Hydrogen gas, as follows:
Metal + dil. Acid → Metal Salt + Hydrogen gas.
But, in case of dilute Nitiric acid (HNO3), it is a very strong oxidising agent. So, it oxidised the Hydrogen gas, so produced into Water, and itself gets reduced into one of the nitrogen oxides, such as Nitrogen oxide/Nitrogen dioxide/Nitrous oxide. So,
Metal + dil. Nitric Acid → Metal Nitrate + Water + NO/NO2/N2O.
