Xylem is also called conducting tissues because they are involved in the transportation of food and water throughout the plant.

The cells of the epidermis are tightly packed together forming a mechanical barrier. This mechanical barrier is important to protect against bacterial infection and other harsh environmental conditions. Theepidermis is covered by both cutin and cuticle( which provides waxyprotective layer).

Answer:

Xylem is a conductive tissue: Xylem is a complex vascular tissue, it consists of elements like tracheids and vessels that are dead and conducts water and minerals from the roots to the leaves

These are closely placed cells and are impervious to water and micro-organisms. They may undergo modifications to form trichomes, may be covered with wax or cuticle to prevent desiccation.
