1.) While Malabar receives heavy rainfall in July, Tamil Nadu iscomparatively dry. This is becausethecoast of Tamil Nadu lies parallel to the Bay of Bengal branch of the south west monsoon and it also lies in therain shadow area of the Arabian Sea branch of the south west monsoon.

2.) Because central Maharashtra is located on the leeward side of the western ghats , it receives less rainfall.
