carbon form compounds beacouse corbon atom has 4 electrons in tis outermost cell ,so it should either lose 4 electrons or gain 4 electrons to achieve the inert gas electron configuration and become stable. carbon form covalent compound.
Covalent compounds are formed by the sharing of electrons, hence the bonding is relatively weak. In Covalent bonded molecule, weak interaction forces like H-bond or Vander Waals force are present which can be easily broken at low temperature. Therefore covalent compounds have low melting and boiling point.

Simple molecular substances consist of molecules in which the atoms are joined by strong covalent bonds. However, the molecules are held together by weak forces so these substances have low melting and boiling points.
