: Copper is used to make hot water tanks and not steel this is because the iron (in steel) is more reactive than then copper also it react with hot steam to produce ferrosoferric oxide. Due to which the body of tank will become weaker

Answer:

We know that from the reactivity series that the steel which is the iron is much more reactive than the copper. Hence, the iron when reacts with the steam or the hot water then there will be a reaction leading to the formation of ferrosoferric oxide thus oxidation of the tank occurs which results in the lowering the quality of the tank and making it erode.

While the copper does not even reacts with water which makes the copper a proper vessel to keep hot water.
