Fungi live in moist environments because it is where they reproduce best. Due to their simple vasculature system they need to grow in places that are moist and dumpy. This way they will only have to rely on osmotic pressure which is the pressure of a dissolved substance to expand equally to all parts of the medium.

Fungi are meant to survive in the damp and moist conditions. Since, the moist condition is the best and ideal condition for the molds or the spores to reproduce and develop into a very adapted fungus. since, the molds which develop from the hyphae needs only moist environment for their reproduction.
The fungus, the formation of mycellium, fruting body is very important, it is the fruting body which develops into a proper fungi and this requires moist and damp condition for development.
