Answer:

Fat blocks the drain by clogging the holes of the soil . it does not allow the movement of water it becomes stop to flow. Fat block porosity of soil in an open drain which affects on the filtering efficiency of water. so oils and fats should not be released in the drain.

Answer:

(i) Oil and fats can clog the drains reducing its effectiveness in filtering water. In open drains, they block the pores in the soil and thus hamper the filtration by soil. Hence, oil and fats should not be released into the drain.

(ii)  Screening is the first unit operation used at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Screening removes objects such as rags, paper, plastics, and metals to prevent damage and clogging of downstream equipment, piping, and appurtenances. Some modern wastewater treatment plants use both coarse screens and fine screens.

(iii)  open drains are left unchecked, they become a health hazard to the neighboring population as they become a breeding ground for disease-causing parasites and other microorganisms. And when the rainy season begins, the open drains can rapidly spread water-borne diseases and infections.
