it is a religious belief but now this is not believed long. As we all know in ancient time people do not know very much they consider it as unclean but it is not a dirty thing in real . It is a biological processs.
Every one have its own belief.
For example Just like people believe that sindur is sign of married women but not all the women of the world do so. it is just a believe.

no i am not saying that it is not practicing now .I am just saying that some of the educated women donot belive it perfectly. it is also not important there ia nothing wrong in those certain days.

Not only Indian women but every women goes through a certain amount of time in every month that's 'periods'.
Everywhere women are continuing their life normally without getting any objections due to their condition. But in India the are many people and societies who consider them dirty. I don't know the reason for their mindset and thinking as I'm not one of them.
These people are negative and this particular thing has been hammered into their mind that menstruating women are unclean and should be prohibited from going to religious places. In some places girls and women in this condition are not even allowed to sit on the same place or cloth as everyone, they're not allowed to eat in the same utensils with others, their clothes are washed separately and people avoid touching them as if they are plague.
They know that because of that monthly cycle only they are alive in this world. They have the knowledge that if it wouldn't happen they won't get a chance to breathe in this world and enjoy life however it is yet they insult the same women by saying that they are unhygienic and can't be seated in the sacred place of God.
