give reasons. why is it right to call the dark phase of photosynthesis as a light independent phase

The dark phase of photosynthesis has nothing to do with dark. This process can take place even in the presence of light,but does not necessarily require light. Hence it would be better to call it Light independent phase rather than Dark phase.
