Give reasons why properties of elements are periodic function s of their atomic numbers and not atomic weights.

This is because if we consider atomic weight as the periodic function then the isotopes of an element must be given different positions in the periodic table as their masses are different But on the other hand, if we give different positions to the isotopes, then according to the law of periodic table, these isotopes of the same element must have different properties.
