There was some orthodox culture, that only male members of a family should be educated as they have to get a job and run the family, while the girls are just meant to handle the house work and take care of the babies. Giving them freedom of studies will change their thinking style and can raise the problems.

And after marriage, they are not allowed to work because they have to look after their household responsibilities.
