Three examples are—

(a) Railways The government has taken this up for the following reasons

(i) Only the government can invest large sums of money on a public project with long gestation period.

(ii) To ensure and provide transportation at cheap rates.

(b) Electric Power Generation by NTPC The government has taken this up to provide electricity at a reasonable rate to consumers.

(c) AIIMS To provide quality health services at a reasonable rate was the main purpose of the government to start this, besides medical education.

 \huge \mathfrak {Because:-}

There are \bold{several\:things} needed by the society as a whole but which the \bold{private\:sector} will not provide at a reasonable cost.

The cost of these need spending \bold{large\: sums} of money, which is beyond the capacity of private sector.

Even if they \bold{do\:provide} these things they would charge a high rate for their use.
