• It is believed that Louis XVI was badly influenced by his wife and had no real ideas of his own. They used to reside in the Palace of Tuileries and had no real direct contact with the public.

• Louis XVI spent too much money. The burden of the taxation was solely on the third estates which comprised of all the poor sections of the society. The first and second estates comprising of Nobles and Clergy enjoyed the freedom from taxation.

• Louis XVI spent too much money in the American Revolution to pull down the British. The British did back down but it left a huge economic loss to the French. The French population rose from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789.
