"The Cherry Tree" is a beautiful poem by Ruskin Bond.

The narrator has planted a cherry seed beneath the soil and forgotten it eventually. But at the end of that May, the plant grows into a five month baby tree. The plant faces many difficulties. It is not watered as the poet never cares to bother. It is eventually eaten by goats and cut by a scythe. But the tree continues to grow higher and higher.

When the narrator returns from Kashmir, the tree is now six feet high with ripe cherries hanging from its branches.
