birds , kites and aeroplanes flying high in the sky do not cast their shadow because the source of light ( sun ) is million times larger than these objects and the screen ( earth's surface) is far away , so umbra is not formed and penumbra is too faint to be visible.

When the bird is flying high in the sky the distance between the body and the surface of the Earth is too large and hence even though the light is obstructed by the bird's body it cannot cast its shadow due to the large distance
