Tapetum

  • The wall of anther is multilayered and is composed of Epidermis, Endothecium, Middle layer and Tapetum.

  • The tapetum is a nutritive tissue which surrounds the sporogenous tissue.

  • The developing pollen grains consumes of tapetum.

  • The sporogenous cells divides and give rise to microspore mother cell ( MMC).

  • The anther matures, each diploid MMC undergo meiosis to form four haploid microspore or pollen grains.
