Answer:

Breaking down of glucose can occur by various pathways ;

⑴ In presence of oxygen :

- Breaking down of glucose into pyruvate takes place in Mitochondria of a cell.

- End products are CO₂ , H₂O and energy.

⑵ In insufficient presence of oxygen :

- In muscle cells, due to insufficient presence of oxygen the cells undergoes anaerobic respiration.

- End products are Lactic acid and lot amount of energy.

⑶ In absence of Oxygen :

- In absence of Oxygen, glucose breakdown into pyruvate in cytoplasm only.

- End product are Ethanol, and small amount of energy.

Explanation:

Glucose:

The most crucial source of energy for all living things is glucose. The most significant carbohydrate that comes from the food we eat is glucose. In order to give the body energy, glucose is oxidised. The several processes by which glucose is broken down are listed below.

Aerobic Respiration:

  • Only when oxygen is present does aerobic respiration take place.
  • Glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain are three distinct mechanisms involved in aerobic respiration (oxidative phosphorylation).
  • During glycolysis, which is a step in this process, glucose is converted to pyruvate, which also produces energy along with carbon dioxide and water.

Anaerobic Respiration:

  • In the lack of oxygen, anaerobic respiration takes place.
  • Without oxygen, two different forms of fermentation can take place.

Alcoholic Fermentation:

  • Alcohol is produced by the fermentation process in yeast.Because there is no oxygen present, only glycolysis can take place, and glucose is converted to pyruvate at the end of the process.
  • The fermentation of alcohol causes the pyruvate to become ethyl alcohol.

Lactic acid Fermentation:

  • Because there isn't enough oxygen in the system, lactic acid fermentation takes place.
  • Lactic acid is created and stored in anaerobic conditions in the muscles, where it happens.
