A)  The longer the acceleration, the greater the change in velocity. Change in velocity is directly proportional to time when acceleration is constant. If velocity increases by a certain amount in a certain time, it should increase by twice that amount in twice the time. ... Start from the definition of acceleration.

B)   Displacement is a vector quantity. It has a magnitude and a direction. This direction is always from the starting point to the ending point. ... So in complete the displacement is independent of the path you take in between two points.

a. Acceleration has the time factor twice as it is the rate of change of velocity.

b. Displacement is independent of its path as it is the linear distance between two points.

Explanation:

  • By definition, the rate of change of the velocity is known as the acceleration. Now velocity is measured as the speed per unit time in a specific direction.
  • Therefore already it has the unit time slated once. When acceleration is calculated, it is the rate of velocity, and therefore it has to be measured as the velocity per unit time. Therefore, time is considered twice.
  • Displacement, on the other hand, depicts the distance between the two objects, and therefore, it is a vector quantity and is independent of the type or the shape of the path.
