Calcium float on reaction with water because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed stick on the surface of metal. Hence, the reation of calcium is violent with water.

Ca+ 2H2O-----> Ca(OH)2+ H2

Aavi1230: well....if the bubbles of hydrogen sticks on the metal ...

Hey!!

When Calcium reacts with water ,hydrogen gas is evolved. The bubbles of hydrogen stick to the surface of calcium and hence the metal(calcium ) starts floating on water.
