yes this statement is right because fibre helps to promotes the movement of material through your digestive system and increases stool bulk, so it can be of benefit to those who struggle with constipation or irregular stools.

fibers are indeed one of the important nutrients. 

well, our body has got many enzymes which are capable of digesting lipids, proteins, etc.

these get absorbed into our body and are used by it to function properly.

Some of the substrate can't be digested by our body, it is termed as prebiotic.

now, what's prebiotic?

the foods which we can't digest are digested by bacteria. It is important for their survival. As most of the nutrients get absorbed before entering large intestine.

Our, large intestine has got large amount of bacteria present in it which are also known as good bacteria.

They do not negatively affect us.

They function for our body in many ways and we provide them with a place to live and food mainly prebiotics. (mutually benefiting each other)

they produce important nutrients which can't be digested by our body:

✯ acetate 
✯ propionate (ester of propionic acid)
✯ butyrate

there are many way through which we can improve the functioning our gut bacteria:

✯ eating healthy food:

=> broccoli
=> beans
=> raspberries

et cetera.

✯ eat fermented food:

=> yogurt
=> kimchi 

et cetera.
