In the excited state the hydrogen will occupy the lone pair of nitrogen and the two electrons are left of 1s

Ammonia has one lone pair of electrons.

  • Ammonia has four electron pairs.
  • The coordination geometry of nitrogen is a tetrahedral arrangement of electron pairs.
  • There are only three bonded groups and one lone pair.
  • Ammonia molecule reacts with hydroxyl ions of water to form ammonium ions by a covalent bond.
  • The ammonium ions are the combination of ammonia molecule and H^{+} ions of the water molecule (H_{2}O).
  •                NH_{3} + H^{+} = NH_{4}^{+}
  • However, the lone pair is invisible.
