- Contrary to this, hydrogen also showed properties similar to elements of group 17. Thus, hydrogen could not be assigned to a fixed place.

The position of hydrogen atom is not fixed in mandeleev's preodit table due to the reassemble of hydrogen with many group properties. It reassemble with alkali metals due to the properties like formation of cation, liberation of H2 gas at cathode etc. It reassembles with carbon family as it has half of number.
