1. When large dams are formed a large no of forest , land and diversity is submerged.

2. These submerged plants decomposes and produce methane gas which is a green house gas which distroys ecosystem

3.The alteration of a river's flow and sediment transport downstream of a dam often causes the greatest sustained environmental impacts.

Large dams can destroy ecosystem because of the following reasons :-

⇒ Dams causes earthquakes sometimes because they destroy the equilibrium of the crustal movements of the Earth .

⇒ Dams causes harm to the aquatic organisms living under water and thus they destroy the river ecosystem .

⇒ The dams may even lead to submerge of villages if there is an overflow of water .

⇒ Dams need huge investment and also the local people are displaced from their homes .

They help in controlling floods , They help to conserve water .

But it also has far reaching disadvantageous consequences .
