Give scientific reasons for the following : (5)

(i) Plants growing in well fertilized soils wilt if the soil is not watered.

(ii) Generally the concentration of cell sap in root hairs is lower than the surrounding soil solution.

(iii) Meat, fish etc are dried and salted for long term storage.

(iv) Gargling with salt solution helps in getting rid of throat infection.

(v) Plasmolysis does not take place in non-living cells.​

Plants growing in fertilized soil are often formed to wilt, if the soil is not adequately watered because of flaccidity or a decrease in turgor pressure exerted by the absorbed water on the cell wall of plants. ... When this happens, the plant loses its turgidity and begins to wilt.
