The head waters of ganga, bhagirathi originates from the gangotri glacier.it flows east .the bhagirathi joins alakananda at devaprayag in uttarakhand .it emerges onto the plains at haridwar.yamuna which flows parallel to ganga , originates from the yamunotri glacier and joins the ganga in u.p.it is about 2500 km.
