Green Manure

  • Green manure is a fertilizer where the specific plants are grown and plowed under the soil intentionally to enrich the soil.

  • It is used both domestically and industrially because it nourishes soil by releasing nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus which are great value nutrients for crops.

  • Production or yield of crops can be increased using green manure.

  • It can also be used to prevent soil erosion where the soil is prone to erosion, increases water holding capacity and improves the soil marginally.

Compost

  • Vermicompost is made by decaying or composting vegetable, plants, food and other organic degradable materials using worms like earthworms, white worms etc.

  • The end product of the vermicompost is vermicast obtained by decomposition of the degradable materials by worms.

  • It is known to have water-soluble nutrients, soil conditioning, and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. It is also popular in both industrial and domestic purposes.

  • Low salinity levels can be generated using vermicompost.

Farmyard manure

  • Well-rotted farmyard manure is a soil-enriching product, produced from organic matter that helps to boost the nutrient levels and properties of the soil.

  • Farmyard manure (FYM) is one of the more valuable organic fertilizers maintaining soil fertility in the systems of alternative agriculture.

  • Most animal manure consists of feces. Common forms of animal manure include farmyard manure (FYM) or farm slurry (liquid manure).

  • Farmyard manure is a heterogeneous composted organic material consisting of animal dung, urine and bedding materials, crop residue etc.
