✯TEA :

►the tea plant grows well in tropical and subtropical climates. it is a labour intensive industry. it requires abundant cheap and skilled labour.

► major tea producing states are Assam, Hills of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri Districts, West Bengal, Tamilnadu and Kerala.



✯COFFEE :

► India produces about 4% of the world's coffee production. the Arabica variety initially brought from Yemen is produced in country.

► initially its cultivation was introduced on the Baba budan Hills and even today its cultivation is confined to the Nilgiri in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu.

Tea
i. The ideal temperature for growing tea is between 20 °C and 30 °C
ii . It needs heavy rainfall between 150 and 250 cm. 
iii . Tea bush is a shade-loving plant and should be planted with rows of shady trees
iv. tea bushes grows well in well drained deep friable loamy soil
v. Assam is the leading producer that accounts for more than50% of tea production of India.
vi.Tea producing areas of Assam are thehill slopes bordering the Brahmaputra and Surma valleys.
West Bengal isthe second largest producer of tea where tea is mostly grown in the districtsof Darjeeling, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Bihar districts.
Tamil Naduis the third largest producer where tea growing areas are mostly restrictedto Nilgiri hills.

Coffee:
I. It requires hot and humid climate with temperature varyingbetween 15°C and 28°C. ii.Dry weather is necessary at thetime of ripening of berries.
iii. Rainfall:Rainfall between 150 to 250 cm is favourable for coffeecultivation.
iv.Well drained, rich friable loamy soil containing good deal of humusand minerals like iron and calcium are ideal for coffee cultivation.
The soilmust be properly manured to retain and replenish fertility and to increaseproductivity.
