Minerals are used for many purposes. For example:
- Graphite is used to make the lead of the pencils.
- Salt is used for cooking.
- Minerals are used in many industries.
- Minerals which are used as gems in jewellery are generally hard.
- Copper is a metal used for making coins, pipes, cooking utensils and electrical wires.
- Silicon is used in computer industry is obtained from quartz.
- Aluminum obtained from its ore bauxite is used to make automobiles, airplanes, bottling industries, buildings and cookware.
Even though there are so many uses of minerals, we should conserve them for future generations too. This is because minerals are a non renewable resource. It takes thousands of years for the formation and concentration of minerals. The rate of formation is much smaller than their consumption.
