Give suitable reason for the statement
"An aqueous solution of sodium chloride is neutral but an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate is basic

Hey mate..

The reason is that NaCl that is sodium chloride is a neutral salt because it is produced from a strong base(NaOH) and a strong acid(HCl) that means the salt becomes neutral.But Na2CO3 is obtained by reacting (NaOH)strong base and (H2CO3)weak acid ...so the salt becomes basic salt due to strong base as a reactant.

Thus,aq Na2CO3 is basic and aqNaCl is neutral..
