Summary of Chapter Bholi by K.A Abbas:

Bholi was the younger Daughter of Numberdar Ramlal. An Accident happens with Bholi(10-month-old) which made her backward child. Bholi had Pox Marks on her face(2 years old). She spokes the first time and stuttering. Her Parents did not care about her. She was sent to the primary school even people want to marry an Educated Girl. Her Teacher was a kind lady and encouraged her to speak. The village becomes a town after a few years. Bishamber Nath an old grocer ready to marry Bholi. On the day of the Marriage Ceremony, Bishamber Nath saw the pox marks on Bholi's face. He demanded 5000 rupees to marry her. Bholi's Father offers him 2000 rupees. Now Bholi refused to marry Bishamber Nath. She said that she did not marry such a Greedy and old lame grocer. She will teach in the school from where she had learned everything and serve her parents in their old age.

Explanation: Bholi's real name was Sulekha. Her parents called her Bholi because she was mentally challenged. She stammered badly. her parents had little hope that anyone would marry her. She was sent to school not because her parents felt that education was necessary for Bholi. they did so as they could refuse the Tehsildar and also, they felt that she would be soon be expelled as she was worthless. they  neglected her completely but Bholi's teacher gave her love and affection. however, at school Bholi's character completely changed. Her teacher's love and affection changed her personality and gave her own confidence to her own self. When her marriage to Bhisambhar was decided she did not raise a word although he was a complete mismatch and he was much older to her. Bholi, however, emerges as a strong individual in the end when she refuses to let her father get blackmailed by Bhisambhar and chooses to stay unmarried
