➡ This is a story by A.J. CRONIN.

》Nicola and Jacopo were two brothers, aged 13 and 12 respectively.

》Their widower father was a well known singer amd was killed in the war against the Germany.

》The war made them homeless and they had no on einthis world except their sister Lucia.

》After the war they were reunited but found their sister suffering from tuberculosis of spine.

》The narrator met the boys at the outskirts of Verona and he brought a box of wild berries from them.

》The boys polished shoes, sold newspapers and did many other odd jobs to earn a living.

》They were very helpful to narrator as well as his companion.

》The narrator was leaving Verona on Monday. so, he asked the boys, if he could do anything for them.

》The younger boy Jacopo asked the narrator if he could drive them to their village which was 30 miles from Verona.

》 The narrator agreed. They leaped out from the car before a large red-roofed villa and promised to return within an hour.

》The narrator went to that villa and a young lady opened the door, actually she was a nurse.

》The narrator saw both the boys sitting besides a 20years young girl. The girl resembled to both of them.

》The narrator requested the nurse to told him everything.

》The nurse told him everything and hiw the boys peesuaded them to take her sister Lucia into the hospital.

》She said that, Lucia made a good progress within this 12 months and they hoped that Lucia would be able to walk and sing again.

》The nurse told that they come here weekly to pay for their sisters treatment.

》Now, after knowing everything, the narrator went to his car and waited for the two boys to come. No one uttered a word. Neither the narrator wanted to say anything baout their secrets.

》Their selfless love, sacrifice and devotion touched the narrator's heart.

》Even the war had not broke their spirit.

》Their selfless action gave a new hope for humanity.
