Adventitious plants initially do not need soil to sprout new roots; all they need is sunlight and moist conditions. If an adventitious plant is pulled up, it can grow new roots, wherever it is placed as long as good conditions exist. Some examples of adventitious plants are: Ivy, Horsetails, Oak trees and Cypress.
