Hello....
Redox is a chemical reaction in which the oxidation states of atoms are changed. Any such reaction involves both a reduction process and a complementary oxidation process, two key concepts involved with electron transfer processes.

OXIDATION:

  • When oxygen was added to a compound it is known as oxidation.
  • The basic level of oxidation is the loss of an electron. When an atom or compound is oxidized its property is change.
  • In the process of oxidation number of atoms becomes larger.
  • Oxidation is basically understood as a loss of hydrogen and the gain of hydrogen is known as reduction.
  • Oxidizing agents always gains an electron. Here we can understand it through example
  • \mathrm{Ch}_{3} \mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{OH}-\mathrm{CH}_{3} \mathrm{Cho}
  • Through this example, we can understand ethanol is oxidized.
