to study the behaviour of the wire under increasing the load draw a graph between the stress and strain the graph is as shown in the figure

1) proportionality limit :(A)
upto. A stress is directly proportional to strain and the wire based the hooks law

2) elastic limit :(B)
in the region A, B the wire does not affect the hooks law but it is against the original length when load is removed

3) yield point:(C)
the point where the elasticity and sand the plasticity begins is called as a yield point

4) permanent set :(OP)
the permanent increasing length of the wire after removing the load is called as a permanent set

5) breaking point:
the point in the graph with the wire breaks

6) breaking stress:
the stress required to break the wire
breaking \: stress = \frac{breaking \: force}{area}

7) elastic fatigue
the temporary loss of elastic property due to the replated strain
